Hello there! I hope the week treated you right! Today I’m going to share the transformation of our master bedroom, which we did primarily through pillows and paint. If you’ve been following my blog you know I’m a big fan of blue and white, and our master bedroom is no exception.
Here’s a shot of the bedroom with all white on the bedcovers and beige on the walls. It was serene, and I liked it that way for a long time, but after the walls were painted in Restoration Hardware’s Ash (a very light griege) in June, I opted to add some blues to the bed in the form of shams and throw pillows.
Here’s what the bedroom looked like with the blue added. Usually I like to keep things neutral on large spaces like walls, but after a few months with the Ash walls I decided to go even more bold and paint the wall behind the bed.
So recently I called my favorite painter, Tony, to help me out. I wanted to update a few spaces in our home. Specifically the kitchen island, (see last week’s post here) the downstairs bedroom (I’ll share it in a future post) and the upstairs master accent wall. When Tony got here I had no idea what exact color I wanted for the master accent wall, but I DID know I wanted a blue. At least I’d gone to Home Depot to get sample pots of blue paints.
To help me choose a color, Tony painted the wall behind the bed with my favorite blues from the sample pots. Here’s a look at the samples he painted. I narrowed it down right away, as I was trying to match the color of the throw pillows on the bed. Whenever you want to paint a wall it’s a good idea to paint swatches on it. Almost immediately I knew which blue to pick— Poseidon, by Behr. (Tony’s favorite paint brands are Dunn Edwards and Behr Marquee). I dashed to Home Depot and got a gallon before I chickened out.
So here’s the finished room. I love it!! The accent wall is a bold blue hue, sort of turquoisey, but quite restful too. My chihuahua mix Jax is making a cameo here, haha!
It looks great with the white and blue bedcovers don’t you think? And now it emphasizes the high ceilings and crown moulding. You can see I have a lot of white in the room still, like in the bedspread and lighthouse painting frame, and the crown moulding, which I think sets off the Poseidon Blue quite well, keeping the new bold color from looking too dark.
Another good thing is that it only took Tony and his brother Rodrigo a couple hours to prep and paint the wall, and it was relatively inexpensive to do this. As they say, paint is the best way to dramatically change a room and it’s not pricey to do!
What do you think of the new accent wall? Please let me know in the comments— and if you liked this blogpost please take a minute to subscribe!!
Have a good week!
