Hi There!! I hope you’re getting through this heatwave ok! Today on the blog I talk about how to create easy, inexpensive art. You can get started by making a trip to Walmart, either virtually or in person, and picking up some inexpensive frames, along with some scrapbook paper— I suggest finding a pack that coordinates with your color scheme. A lot of these packs come with stickers that go with the theme— all the better!! And the best thing is that you can buy each pack for under $20. My favorite brand is Colorbok. It’s acid and lignin free so it won’t fade!
If you’re wondering if we’re going to frame the scrapbook paper, you are absolutely right!! I recommend making a statement by framing two or three or nine (yep!). You can place them over your bed or on a wall that needs some color. I’ve got papers framed in three bedrooms — and each vignette is different. Let me show you!
Here is a grouping of three frames over the bed. You can see each piece has a sticker in the middle. I found the frames at a garage sale and had my painter work his magic. First he painted the frames with a dusty blue base, and then he lightly rubbed on a white paint to get a striated look. (He used this technique on all the furniture in the room, which I will feature in a future post.)
Here is the picture up close.
Here is another framed piece from this room. Isn’t the filigree on the corners beautiful?
I lucked out and found the above frames at a garage sale!
I’ve also got a vignette of three frames over the bed in this room, which used to be my son’s. The pattern on the papers in this room is pretty pronounced, so I didn’t add any stickers.
Sometimes a simple stripe is all you need to add a little punch to your pictures.
Here’s another one up close; it has a modern vibe.
Happy little trees!
These three pictures are in what used to be my daughter’s room.
I wish I could remember where I got these frames! It was either HomeGoods or Target.
I love the sticker on this one, “Love Your Life.” I painted this frame myself, in my favorite decorating color, white. The matte looks great with the wallpaper in this room, don’t you think?
This one, “Follow Your Dreams” is a favorite . . . I also painted this frame. I took some white paint and painted the frame and then wiped it off while it was wet to get an antique look.
I hope this post inspires you to create your own art– it doesn’t have to be expensive to look good and fit your space!
Have a good week!!
xoxo
