Everyday Table Settings

Hello there! I’m back after a break over Labor Day. Hope yours was a good one!

Today I’m going to talk about setting your table for everyday dinners. I don’t know about you, but most of the time I set the table for my husband and me. It elevates the simple ritual of having a meal together, making the everyday act of eating dinner something special, and it’s especially important for nurturing relationships during the isolation we can sometimes feel during this Covid pandemic. It’s quick to set a table as long as you have some placemats and cloth napkins in a handy spot— in my case they’re in a drawer in our kitchen. And as you will see a trip (or virtual hop!) to Walmart (some items in this blog post are available in the store only, but there are still some really pretty placemats online) is all you need to get the look!

Over Labor Day we had our grown kids and grandson over. We had to scrap our plans to eat outside in the backyard as it was 115 degrees (yikes!) out and it was smoky from the wildfires raging in California. (My brother’s a firefighter and I’m so proud of him— firefighters are such heroes!). But we didn’t mind eating inside, especially as the dining table gives us lots of room to spread out— with the leaves in it can seat twelve— and there were just six of us. Here’s how I set the table.

I got these cute reversible placemats with tiny white Pom Poms at Walmart for just $3.47 each. Such a deal!!

Here’s how the placemats look on the reverse side— hot pink!!

I set them up on the hot pink side on our kitchen table, and I bought two bunches of fresh fuchsia carnations for $4.87 each at Walmart and plopped them in a glass water pitcher for a quick center piece.

I also used my wedding china here— life is short and there’s no reason to keep your good china hidden away!! And when eating at night I like to include tea lights at the table; it gives the table an extra special glowy touch.

Yesterday when it wasn’t so hot I set the table outside with some pretty blue placemats I also got at Walmart for $1.96 each. I love that they were under two bucks!! The napkins came in a pack of four for $4.97.

They also had a 72” runner for $9.96 in the same fabric as the placemats, which I didn’t get, but I may just go back and pick it up.

Do you set your tables for everyday? Please let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear what you think! If you enjoyed this post please take a moment to subscribe to my blog. It’s totally free and I’m trying to build my readership. Thank you!!

xoxo

    Beautiful ideas!

Realistically for us during these times, our dining room table is filled with puzzles and our kitchen table has accumulated “things!” But we do manage to sit down in the kitchen for meals!

    Thx again for sharing!

Ron and I like to eat at the kitchen island too— we move around a lot, and sometimes eat at the kitchen table, sometimes the island, and sometimes in front of the tv! I like to mix it up. Thanks for your comment, Terri!!

Thank you, Cheri, for the reminder to make meals special for your loved ones. I have used candles and pretty table settings this week thanks to your post.
