Hi There!! I’m having so much fun with this blog and am glad to be back!! I hope you are doing well during this coronavirus pandemic. I’ve actually been enjoying being less busy and am spending some time refreshing my home. Last week we had several bathrooms and bedrooms repainted along with some furniture. I’ve tried to keep the refresh cost effective– I love to find accessories stored away around the house and give them new life.
We’ve lived in this house since 1994– almost 26 years– and in that time my decorating tastes have changed dramatically. I was heavily into the Tuscan theme in the early 2000s; but slowly but surely I’ve transitioned to a color scheme that is more bright and fresh. Now I love all shades of blue mixed with a lot of white. Every room in my house has some blue and white in it. I’ll share more in future posts!
Today I’m going to do a before and after of an upstairs bedroom. It used to be my son Trevor’s room, but he is 29 now and moved out when he was 18 so the room has served as a guest room for 11 years. The walls were a deep beige. Here’s what it looked like before the painters came:
I’ve liked this room a lot and appreciate that it’s a nice size so we can fit a sofa– lots of kids’ gaming goes on here– but it has been this way for at least 15 years. The sofa is still in good shape. I didn’t want to buy a new one or pay to have it reupholstered, but I thought it would be nice to give it a fresh new color. I googled ‘Sofa Cover’ and found this Stretch Sofa Cover in a grey-blue on Amazon for less than $40 (!) and decided to try it! It got almost five stars and now I can see why. I ordered size Large, which seats three people. It was a perfect fit. It was easy peazy to put on– has lots of Spandex so it stretches easily– and the new color freshens up the whole room.
I’ve never tried a packaged slipcover before but now I’m a convert! Here’s what the room looks like now after being painted with Restoration Hardware’s ‘Ash’ color (I must tell you that Restoration Hardware does not sell paint anymore but I happened to have an old fan deck of their former paint colors and love the color ‘Ash.’ It’s a light greige that comes across very classic and looks great contrasted with a pure white.)
I’m really happy with the freshened up room. I found the blue coverlet at the foot of the bed in my linen cupboard, and the fuchsia and orange silk flowers on the chest were stored away in the garage. I popped the flowers in a little blue pot I found in the armoire, all saved just for this room it seems!
Let me know what you think about the room in the comments below. And if you liked this blogpost and would like to read more, please Subscribe to my mailing list. I promise not to spam you and it’s totally free. I hope to be in your inbox again real soon!!
