Hi there!! Today I’m going to give you a little tour of some of the places in my home where I’ve decorated with white. There’s just something so peaceful and tranquil about white spaces and furniture. It’s like a breath of fresh air. So let’s get started!
First up is the armoire. I nabbed this piece from my dad in San Diego over twenty years ago. He had it in an unused back bedroom. There was nothing inside it, and it was just standing there all lonely and forlorn and I knew it would look great in my living room, so I told Dad I was taking it. Dad kind of stood by stunned as my brother Kenny and I got the armoire in Kenny’s truck within ten minutes. Kenny and I drove it up to L.A. and that was that. It was a brown oak color. I kept it stained brown for several years, and then painted it white about ten years ago.
When Dad comes over he sometimes comments on how I stole his armoire– lol– but he does reluctantly agree it fits better in my house than it did in his.
Next up is my desk— pardon the clutter!! I got this piece from a friend years ago— I gave her my kindle and she gave me this desk. The kindle went obsolete but this desk sure didn’t, so I think I got the better deal, right? It was a yellow pine before we painted it white. I love turquoise accents with white— that pop of color is so much fun— so my bulletin board and pillow on the desk chair are turquoise.
Here is a photo of the foyer cabinet and mirror, both of which have been painted black, then cream, then white.
This corner of the living room features a kitty named Pyper, a slipcovered chair, and a side table. I originally got the chair and table at Salvation Army and Goodwill. I love white slipcovers, especially because you can take them off and wash them if they get dirty, and then they look brand new again!
Under the slipcover the chair is a red floral upholstery. When the kids were little I would call this the “Lovin’ Chair.” If they were sad or got a skinned knee I’d say, “Let’s go to the Lovin’ Chair!” I’d bring them here, sit them on my lap, and sing to them. It never failed to calm them down.
The side table was a Goodwill find that I painted. I have three of these little French tables— the other two are painted black and are on the front porch. I’ll share about them in a future post.
Next up is the kitchen table. I love black furniture mixed with white — I believe it’s true that every room should have some black in it because it grounds the room. The dining set used to be stained brown until we painted the kitchen cabinets, then we decided to paint the table too.
I reupholstered the kitchen chairs with a grey arabesque pattern— just unscrewed the chair pads and stapled the fabric onto the bottom of the pads.
You can see the chairs match the kitchen’s backsplash.
Here’s a long shot of the kitchen and you can see the stools match the arabesque backsplash.
Here is another view of the backsplash with white accessories.
The kitchen and entertainment center have gone through several transformations in the past 26 years! They’ve been golden oak, a stained cherry, distressed white, cream, and now crisp white. Here’s our entertainment center. I think I’ll keep it crisp white for a long while!
Well that’s all for today. In a future post I’ll share how we painted the upstairs furniture and cabinets.
Have a good weekend and see you next week!
xoxo

I love the history of past paint colors and of where you got your furniture. Everything looks beautiful! The picture of the blue path painting reflected in the oval mirror is so pretty!

Thank you, Sis!! I’m glad you noticed the reflection of Jenna’s painting— so observant!! Love you.

We have the same house…and yet over the years you always manage to decorate or change it so beautifully!
Cheri says
Thanks Terri!! I definitely like to decorate and change things up, sometimes to Ron’s chagrin!! Lol. The place has changed so much over the years, but I love the house and Trenton Place— freshening it up from time to time is so rewarding!!

Cheri,
You are remarkably talented. I wish you could fly to Georgia and redo my entire house, lol. I have all new furniture but its the “stuff” all around it I need help with, lol.

Thank you, Laurie!! I didn’t realize you were across the country– I hear Georgia is gorgeous.
Decorating and accessorizing can be tricky. I’ll be covering a lot more of it in future blogs– stay tuned!

I love the white furniture, etc. I, too, would keep the white for a long time. You can always change the color of your decor and accent pieces with other colors knowing they will always mix well with the white. The white is always so fresh and clean, too! I love your style and decor. Thanks for sharing.

Mary,
Thanks for your comment! I agree with you— it’s much easier to accessorize with color when the backdrop is white or neutral. Take care!

You’ve given me wonderful ideas and motivation to paint my brown furniture white instead of buying all new. I absolutely love your style, it’s so fresh, clean, crisp and calming. Thank you Cherie
